An oil painting on paper titled Guitar/Fruit by Australian/American artist Edgar Hatten (1929-1990), executed in 1978. This painting depicts a vague rendering of a guitar and a piece of fruit in stippled oil application in primary and secondary colors. Signed to the verso of paper and inscribed to the verso of mat in graphite, ‘Edgar Hatten, signed verso, ’Guitar/Fruit,’ 1978.’ This paining is matted in white and wrapped in acetate for safe keeping. It is unframed.
Hatten is known for painting abstract still-lifes and landscapes, integrating mood, concept, visual elements, and drama. He was born in Wyoming and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. He was a teacher at Swinbourne College in Australia, and in California at East Los Angeles College and Citrus College.
