Henry Faulkner Oil Painting of Floral Still Life

An original oil depicting a floral bouquet by Henry Lawrence Faulkner. The piece features a rich cobalt blue background with a white vase with accenting gold tone dots along the base. The container is filled with floral sprays in various shades of white, blue, and pink. The bouquet rests on a checkered tablecloth with pink, teal, mustard yellow, and mint within the fabric. The oil on board is held within a wooden frame with an overall traditional design.

Faulkner (1924-1981) was born in Appalachia, Kentucky in 1924, with the death of his mother in 1926 the artist along with nine other siblings would be orphaned. He was raised in Louisville within foster homes and the Kentucky Children’s Home. He would receive a scholarship and study at the Louisville School of Art. He would later study with Millard Sheets, Pierre Sicard, and others at the Los Angeles Art Institute. Faulkner would move to Lexington in 1956. It was within Lexington that his unique whimsical style would continue to grow. The artist continued painting until his death in 1981.

Condition

Frame shows wear and some chips. Canvas shows some looseness. Paint is chipped in several places on canvas.
