A semi-antique Sarouk hand-knotted wool area rug. This beautiful Persian rug enjoys a carmine red background field, populated with floral palmettes, vases and lancet leaves in rich shades of royal blue, Mediterranean blue, celadon green, olive green and cream. The field is banded in compound borders including a herati primary border and several floral guard borders. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finished with wool warp fringe at either end. It is tagged on the reverse. From the consignor, the rug was purchased in New York City in the 1910s-1920s and was a treasured feature of a beautiful Central Park apartment’s decor for many years.
