Ronald Ahlstrom Abstract Mixed Media Collage on Canvas

Item Details

An untitled abstract mixed media collage on canvas by listed American artist Ronald Ahlstrom (1922-2012). Composed of various materials such as acrylic paint, scraps of paper, and ink, this work features layered pieces of paper cut into polygonal fragments some of which have preexisting printed imagery. The fragments are overlapped into a chaotic geometric design and marked with erratic delineations, aggressive scratches and punctures throughout the surface. The work is colored with gestural brushstrokes in white, browns, blues, reds, and black. The composition is signed and marked with the artist’s stamped monogram to the upper right. It is also signed twice to the verso and some handwriting to the verso reads ‘1971’. The work remains unframed.
