Kawano Kaoru Original Japanese Woodblock Print "Conversation"

Item Details

An original Japanese woodblock print by well-listed printer Kawano Kaoru (1916 – 1965), titled Conversation. Kaoru is most famous for his depictions of children and rose to prominence in Tokyo beginning in the 1940s. The artist frequently utilizes the wood’s natural grain in his printmaking to add texture and intrigue. This modern-style print depicts a young girl seated and holding a small bird in her hands. She sits in a forested scene, the scene is printed in wide blocks of gray, blue, and green color. The artist’s chop mark is printed in the lower right, and the piece is signed in pencil just below that. The print is matted in white and presented behind glass in a thin wooden frame with black painted finish. A hanging wire is attached to the verso.
