Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Khamseh area rug. This tribal wool rug is rendered in a palette of cranberry, royal blue, burgundy, saffron, and ivory. It begins with a royal blue diamond medallion, resting on a cranberry-colored lozenge, which, in turn, rests on a royal blue field. The lozenge and field are filled with open diamond medallions consisting of sprays of flowers, some parked in vases, some arranged as a grid. Framing the field is a meandering leaf-and-palmette main border over ivory. and two minor borders featuring linked boteh. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. It is labeled ‘Made in Iran’ on the reverse.
