Dick Masterson Hand Thrown Stoneware Mugs and Table Set

A set of Dick Masterson hand thrown stoneware for the table. Included are two handled mugs, each featuring a pattern of sgraffito petroglyphs through black underglaze to the exterior, with a deep, rich orange to copper red gloss glaze on the interior and rim, and showing the groggy bisqued clay on the exterior foot. Also included are a cream jug and lidded sugar bowl in the same design and colors. Included is a taller spoon jar with the same petroglyph patterning. They are signed “Masterson” to the underside.

Masterson (American, 1940 – 2013) was a renowned and prolific potter and outdoorsman. He is best known for his thick, functional stoneware with etched patterns of Southwest petroglyphs. He had a BFA in Fine Arts, and was a lifelong potter, well respected in the art world, having many fascinating interests.
