Finely Hand Thrown Studio Stoneware Collection
Item Details
A Finely hand thrown studio stoneware collection, featuring rich copper reds, browns, eggshell, teal and tenmoku-colored gloss glazes. Included are a large display platter, having applied textured handles to each side, with a wide rim and spiral and abstract glaze incised decoration; an urn vase with a wide mouth, trimmed rim and small lug handles over a bulbous reservoir, in copper red with sage green and orange; and a tall vase having a trimmed rim, tapered to bulbous form, and applied, an stylized serpent-like handle to the side, with rich brown and deep copper red with sage colors in a drip glaze. Each piece is made of a groggy stoneware clay showing clay particles through the glazes. The were likely high-fired in a gas kiln, and are illegibly marked to the side or undersides, appearing to read ‘Hanelle’.
Condition
- some scratches and nicks. The display platter has a stress crack from firing at the base, but this is healed by the glaze to the front and should not impede its function.
Dimensions
- measurement of tall vase.
