19th-Century Fischer J. Reticulated and Embossed Ewer

A 19th-century Fischer J. ceramic ewer, Budapest, Hungary. Hand painted polychrome enamel decoration with embossed white dots throughout and raised floriforms around the body and base. Prominent gilt designs run throughout the ewer with a reticulated pedestal base. Impressed mark present to the underside.
Fischer J. Budapest was founded by Ignace Fischer in Pest, Hungary, in 1864. (Pest is the eastern half of modern Budapest which was united with the western half, Buda, in 1873). His pieces bear the mark ‘Fischer J.’ with the ‘J’ being the same letter as ‘I’ in Hungarian. The Fischer factory was bought by Zsolnay Pottery in 1895.
