A charcoal and conte crayon drawing on paper of a seated nude female figure by listed Russian-American artist Abraham Solomon Baylinson (1882-1950), created in 1938. This nearly full-body portrait features a three-quarter view of a woman seated on a chair covered with a dark cloth. The work is signed and dated in charcoal to the lower left. It is presented under glass with off-white canvas matting, a gold-tone sight edge, and housed in a gold-tone wood frame.

Born in Russia, Abraham Baylinson emigrated to the United States in the early 20th century and settled in New York City. He attended the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design, and the New York School of Art where he studied under Robert Henri. Baylinson is known for his Modernist figural and still life paintings. His work has been exhibited at renowned art institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Corcoran Gallery, among others.

- small chip in gesso decoration at lower left portion of frame; puncture at top center of backing; foxing along bottom portion of matting; gilt loss, scratches, and stains throughout frame.
