Item Details
An original 1936 oil painting on canvas by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904 – 1997). This Surrealist work depicts a coastal landscape of sorts, strange geological formations rising in the foreground. A humanoid figure walks the shoreline, casting a long shadow as the day nears its end. Artist signature is signed and dated to the lower right, mounted in a beveled wood plein air frame with a distressed gilt finish, equipped to hang. A label is attached to the verso with basic information about the piece.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
