Peter Keil Abstract Oil Portrait on Canvas of Woman
Item Details
An abstract oil portrait on canvas of a woman by listed German-bord artist Peter Robert Keil (b. 1941), created in 1983. Abstracted to simplified lines and brushstrokes, this bust portrait features a frontal view of a woman’s face. The subject is portrayed with Keil’s signature style consisting of sweeping black outlines and vibrant colors rendered in large gestural brushstrokes and irregular shapes. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right; it remains unframed. Some illegible handwriting is present to the canvas verso.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
Condition
