A vintage original watercolor of the clipper ship Lightning by Joseph F. McGinnis. This maritime painting depicts the large ship at full sail in calm seas. The work is signed in the lower left ‘J.F. McGinnis’. There are two hand written labels on the verso, one reading ‘Clipper Ship Lightning, 2084 tons, Built by Donald McKay, Launched at Boston in 1854, Disappeared from the Shipping List in 1866’; and the other reads ‘Painted by Jos. F. McGillis, Circa 1923-1928’. The work is presented in a hand carved finished wood frame, ready to hang.
