An Indo-Persian Kerman rug. This wool area rug, likely made in India, is hand-knotted in a palette of burgundy, ivory, sapphire, and camel. It features a classic Kerman design beginning with an oval central pendant medallion and incorporating a profusion of flowers, leaves, and vines as well as four vases around the outer perimeter of a burgundy-colored field. Framing the field are four box borders, including a primary herati border of meandering palmettes over ivory. Selvedges are overcast; each end finishes with knotted ivory wool warp fringe. The rug is labeled on the reverse.
