Antiquarian Copy of Nathanial Hawthorne's "The Marble Faun"
Item Details
An antiquarian copy of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book is entitled The Marble Faun or The Romance of Monte Beni and was published by Houghton, Mifflin and Company, The Riverside Press, Boston, 1888. This volume is protected by a gilt decorated leather dust jacket complete with a sewn leather book mark. The book is bound in maroon with gilt lettering on the spine and an impressed ivy pattern on the front cover with ‘Cambridge Classics’. The top edges are gilt and the fore edges are untrimmed. The frontispiece is tissue guarded.

Condition
Slightly cracked front hinge consistent with age. Foxing is evident, and fading to the front and back endpapers due to the leather jacket. Fading is evident where the book mark was located. The front endpaper has the previous owner’s name and a date written in pencil.
