An original landscape watercolor and gouache painting on paper by Robert Burns Wilson (American, 1850 – 1916). This piece depicts a small stream beneath a stormy sky. The rain descends as the clouds break to reveal a bit of blue. It is rendered in watery pigments of cool tones with white gouache accents on fibrous paper. It is signed by hand to the lower left corner and is set behind glass in a gold tone wooden frame.. It has a wire to the verso for hanging.
Robert Burns Wilson was a painter and poet who settled in Frankfort, Kentucky and became well-known for his depictions of Kentucky landscapes. He is well-listed, including works in the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and is currently buried in the Frankfort Cemetery near the grave of Daniel Boone.
Condition
- staining on paper and damage to lower left corner of frame.
- piece was damaged since photography, glass was broken out and there are several hairline scratches to the matting and artwork.
