An oil painting on copper panel after the 1856 painting by Louis Maurer titled Preparing for Market. Maurer’s original was reproduced extensively as a popular print by Currier & Ives. This painting is signed in the lower left corner ‘Hanford Richmond, Kentucky ’67’. A farmer and his wife load baskets of produce into a wagon hitched to a gray horse. A child holds a second horse as poultry cluster in the foreground. A house stands to the left and other buildings appear in the background.The painting is framed in an ornate molded frame with a gold tone finish.
