A collection of ten early twentieth-century literature books. The collection includes Theodore Roosevelt’s African Game Trails: An Account of the African Wanderings of an American Hunter-Naturalist, published in 1910 by Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York. Lest We Forget: World War Stories by John Gilbert Thompson and Inez Bigwood, was published by Silver, Burdett and Company in 1918. A beautiful copy of Little Rivers: A Book of Essays in Profitable Idleness by Henry Van Dyke, features a navy blue cloth cover with embossed, colored Art Nouveau-style floral and insect designs with gilded lettering and accents. It was published in 1906 by Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York. A 1909 copy of The Koran translated from the Arabic by the Rev. J. M. Rodwell, was published by J. M. Dent & Co., London and by E. P. Dutton & Co., New York. A Look on the Brighter Side by W. R,. Rutherford was published in 1906 by Dodge Publishing Company, New York. Paul and Virginia by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, was translated from the French by Clara Bell, and was published ca. 1890 by The F. M. Lupton Publishing Company, New York. A blue cloth-covered copy of Lays of Ancient Rome with Ivry and The Armada by Thomas Babington Macaulay, was published by The F. M. Lupton Publishing Company, New York, and does not have a copyright date. Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Idylls of the King, edited by William T. Vlymen, was published in 1907 by The Macmillan Company New York. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Twice-Told Tales was edited by Charles Robert Gaston, and was published in 1908 by The Macmillan Company, New York. Also included is a softcover World War I-era booklet titled Songs The Soldiers and Sailors Sing, which has a 1918 and 1919 calendar printed on the inside cover.
