Hand Painted Silk Hinomaru Yosegaki Flag

Item Details

A Japanese hinomaru yosegaki, or ‘good luck flag’. These were traditional gifts made for servicemen in the Japanese military particularly during the Second World War. This particular hinomaru yosegaki is composed of hand painted silk and features the message ‘Perpetual prayers in the fortunes of war’ (祈武運長久). The flag is mounted on a foam board and is presented behind a plastic covering.

Condition

- staining present throughout the piece; worn edges and corners; light fraying present throughout.
