A set of eight vintage engravings on paper after a series of 1732-33 paintings by listed English artist William Hogarth (1697 – 1764) titled A Rake’s Progress. Each image includes text regaling the downfall of central figure Tom Rakewell printed to the lower margin. Included in this set are Plate 1: The Young Heir Takes Possession of the Miser’s Effects, Plate 2: Surrounded by Artists and Professors, Plate 3: The Tavern Scene, Plate 4: Arrested for Debt, Plate 5: Married to an Old Maid, Plate 6: Scene In A Gaming House, Plate 7: The Prison Scene and Plate 8: In the Madhouse. Each is presented under glass in a black wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- toning, foxing, fading and buckling to prints; crack to glass of Plate 5; chipping, surface wear and scratching to frames; holes and wear to frame backings.

- measures items grouped; each frame is 1.0" D; each unframed image measures 23.5" W x 17.5" H.
