Small Kaunisto Hand Thrown White Stoneware Lidded Poultry Baker

Item Details

A small, hand thrown white stoneware lidded poultry baker; this size is suitable for a small chicken or for quail. It has a rounded form with applied lug handles to each side, and a fitted lid with a loop handle. The exterior is glazed in cobalt blue with wheat patterns in a wax resist technique. The interior features a thrown cylindrical vent over which the poultry is placed upright. The vent allows heat from the oven to directly enter the fowl and creates a moist, tender bird, while steam is trapped by the fitted lid. It is marked by artist, ‘Kaunisto’, to the underside.

Condition

- staining to interior.
- avoid thermal shock when baking; it is not recommended to place a cold baker into a hot oven. Allow pot and food to heat with the oven.
