Henry Faulkner Original Oil Painting "Sicillian Boy with a Tree for God"
Item Details
An oil and casein on masonite board by well known Lexington poet and modernist Henry Faulkner (American, 1924-1981). The subject of the painting offered here is a nude boy with wings and a halo, holding a flowering tree. There is evidence of a goat figure on his chest, and a black devil at his feet. The goat is symbolic of Alice, Faulkner’s beloved pet goat who was notoriously paraded by the artist to gallery openings, restaurants, and all manner of public places. Signed in the lower left, the work is also inscribed on verso the following- ‘Sicillian Boy with a tree for god. Taormina – Henry Faulkner’. The work is housed in a silver tone frame with a cream linen mat.
