A 1982 artist’s proof serigraph poster on paper for the 1983 Mobile, Alabama Mardis Gras by Southern American artist C.L. Cunningham. The piece depicts historic figure Joe Cain dressed in a harlequin costume; he is shown suspended in the air against a black background, as balloons, candy and moon pies fly around him. The poster includes decorative text of ‘The Original Mardis Gras, Mobile 1983’ printed to the lower center, as well as fine print of ‘Copyright 1982, CL Cunningham’ to the lower left margin. The print is signed in pen to the lower right and noted in pen as ‘AP’ to the lower left. The poster includes several additional inscriptions written throughout the image by an unknown hand. It is presented under glass in a black metal frame with hanging wire to the verso.
