1880 Zell's Encyclopedia and Atlas Complete Set

A complete six volume hardcover set of Zell’s Encyclopedia and Atlas, published 1880 by T. Ellwood Zell of Philadelphia. Subtitled ‘A Complete Dictionary of the English Language’, its entries range from a short definition to articles few columns in length, with engraved illustrations throughout. Volume V is the atlas portion, with numerous hand-tinted maps, and the sixth volume is titled ‘Analysis of Zell’s Encyclopedia’, and consists of a variety of indexes by topic. All volumes are bound in half-leather burgundy hardcovers with embossed, gilt lettering.

Condition

- light cover wear and paper yellowing consistent with age. Some of the maps have been cut out of the atlas by a previous owner.
