Pair of Vintage Signed and Numbered Relief Prints

Item Details

A pair of vintage signed and numbered relief prints by listed artist Pierre-Eugène Clairin (French, 1897-1980). The prints include one depicting a group of people near a vendor’s cart, which is filled with bird cages containing birds, and is numbered ‘22/40’. The other depicts a figure wearing a dark suit, standing near a cage filled with birds. Both are titled, numbered and signed in pencil to the lower margins. They are presented with tan mats and glass in simple wood frames, and are ready to hang.

The artist, a painter, illustrator and engraver, was born in France to a French father and American mother. He was schooled in England, then returned to France and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was also a World War I fighter pilot, who was seriously injured in that war.
