Elmer Capshaw Oil Painting on Board Floral Still Life
Item Details
An oil painting on board floral still life by listed American artist Elmer Capshaw (1920-1945). Red, white and pink poppy flowers spring from a shallow, white jardiniere with blue stripes. Verdant leaves in thick impasto amass in around the rim of the jardiniere. The earthen toned ground muddles the distinct lines of the flowers pulling them into the background. Signed to the lower right in paint with a newer inscription to the verso. Presented without glass, housed in an ornate acanthus molded gilt and gesso wood frame.
