An antique original etching with aquatint on rag paper by listed Belgian-French artist Gustave Fraipont (1849 – 1923). Fraipont’s body of work generally consists of images of iconic European sites and landmarks ravaged by the tragedy of war. This print depicts a large black-feathered eagle impaled with a sword to a wooden post that rises in the midst of a battlefield of strewn with dead civilians. In the distance, a glowing explosion is seen, surrounded by those left standing, some are seen running away. Artist signature is printed in plate to the lower left, and dedicated to artist Antony Fraipont. Presented without matting or framing.
