An oil portrait on canvas of a woman standing before an inky sea. The dark-haired figure, a wispy shawl wrapped around her shoulders, is depicted before a body of water backed by an orange and green sky, a small ship visible in silhouette to one side. There is what seems to be an inventory stamp printed in small text to the left side of the piece, appearing to read ‘bed JS889Td.’ This unsigned painting is presented unframed, without protective covering or hanging hardware.

Condition

- chipping and paint loss to upper half and edges, especially the right side; wear along stretchers; crazing throughout; hole toward lower left; scratches and abrasions throughout; foxing and toning to front and verso; darkening to varnish.
