A large, finely hand-knotted Chinese pictorial area rug in rich, saturated colors with a bird motif. It features a central medallion depicting a mated pair of peacocks among pink and gold flowers within a ring of greenery and an outer wreath of golden leaves and flowers on a buff background. Inside corners offer floral bouquets in a palette of dark pink, blue, green, salmon and yellow. Along the main border are pale yellow vignette panels of birds in various activities in a cerulean blue ground interspersed with two-tone blue green foliage. Outer border is a solid band of royal blue. Additionally, the rug has been carved along the design lines for a dimensional appearance. It is unmarked and has a natural warp fringe to either end. Located on the main floor.
