Item Details
A restrike woodblock of an Edo-period woman. This print on rice paper depicts a woman standing with a slight tilt of one knee as she pulls at the cape of her traditional kimono, inquisitively looking at it. The kimono is rendered in a salmon, black and gray color scheme reinforced by curvaceous linework, further detailed with foliate patterning throughout. To the lower right corner of the composition is a vertical arrangement of Japanese characters, in addition to multiple seals serving as the artist’s signature. The print is presented under glass beneath single-layered matting in a bronze tone wooden frame featuring bamboo patterning and hanging wire to the verso.
