Frank Simon Herrmann Mixed Media Painting on Paper of a Landscape

Item Details

A mixed media painting of a violet landscape by Frank Simon Herrmann (1866-1942). Depicted are small, thin brushstrokes that simulate a landscape of purple mountains. Violet hues are reflected onto the clouds in the distance and green foliage is located in the foreground. Artist’s signature is to the lower right corner. Presented in a plastic sleeve with a board for stability.

Frank Herrmann was an American artist that spent most of his artistic career in Germany. He created work that embraced Beaux-Arts Academic Realism to Impressionism to the New Objectivity. Herrmann was also a founding member for two groups of the German avant-garde centered in Munich: the Munich Secessionist Group (SEMA) and the New Secession of German Artists. However, Herrmann only wanted very limited exposure of his work in the United States, but had a solo exhibition in New York City when he was 61 at Babcock Galleries.
