A photogravure on paper titled The Three Fates, after German painter Friedrich Paul Thumann (1834 – 1908). This realistic piece depicts the Greek mythological Fates, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos in a triangular composition, holding the instruments of the roles they play in determining the fate of mortals, including thread and shears. The work is signed in plate to the lower right, with XXV printed beneath the image. It is presented under layered mats and glass, in a black and silver tone veneered wood frame, with hanging wire affixed to the verso.
Condition
- minimal wear to corners; tears to backing paper; some markings, wear, and oxidation to frame.
