A set of two early 20th-century engravings on paper. Featured is a mezzotint engraving by American artist Clifford R. James. It depicts the portrait of a woman wearing pink and teal draped clothing and leaning against a portico column. The work is signed in graphite to the lower right and set under decorative French matting. Also included is an engraving by Venzo after a painting by Darcis titled L’Innocence, signed and titled in plate to the lower margin. Each print is presented in a wooden frame with gold tone gesso embellishments to the front and hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- ranges from Good to Fair; toning and foxing to paper and matting; stains present to “L’Innocence” print; wear to frames with scratching, markings and cracks to gesso; frame joints are not fully flush.
