19th-Century Oil Painting on Panel of a Rabbi

A late 19th-century oil painting on panel of a rabbi, signed by the artist. From the shadows on the right emerges a stoic rabbi figure in traditional dress. He prepares his ritual items for service while his tallit appears from under a stack of books on the table top in front of him. The painting is signed faintly to the lower right with the first few letters appearing as, ‘B. Borisc..’ Presented without glass, housed beveled gilt wood frame with ornate top moulding.

Condition

- signs of cleaning under UV light; over painting present to the lower left and right sides and sporadically to the left side of the canvas; signature is barely visible to the naked eye.
