An oil painting on canvas of a rural landscape by Juliette Rhodes. This work features a small river surrounded by trees and overgrown foliage; a man on a boat is visible in the middle-ground and a couple farm houses are partially visible in the distance. The painting is signed ‘Juliette U. Rhodes’ to the verso with some illegible handwriting that identifies Holland as the location of the subject. The work is presented in a gold-tone gesso frame with running leaf and dart molding.
Condition
- rubbing marks and some paint loss along edges of painting; spot of paint loss present in central left area of sky; small spot stains and toning throughout composition; some craquelure throughout painting; large chips present throughout frame; cracks, stains, gilt loss an didscoloration throughout frame; painting is loose and needs securing in frame.
