An Antonio Pineda (Taxco, Mexico 1919-2009) sterling silver and amethyst necklace and earring suite. The choker style necklace comprises twelve rectangular cabochon stones with banded sterling silver cuffs between each. The long coordinating earrings dangle from the lobe with one amethyst stone each and screw backs.
Antonio Pineda was born in Taxco, Mexico where he studied painting and sculpture at the Open Air School of Taxco before becoming an apprentice to William Spratling at the age of 14. After becoming a master silversmith himself, he opened his own workshop in 1941. Antonio’s pieces are highly regarded and coveted for their innovative techniques, refined craftsmanship and signature modernistic designs.
