An 1857 first edition hardcover copy of famed Victorian British missionary and explorer David Livingstone’s Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa, published by John Murray of London. The work is a memoir of Livingstone’s travels from the British colony at the Cape through the interior of southern Africa, including his becoming the first European to see the Victoria Falls (to which he gave that name) in 1855. It is illustrated with numerous engravings and bound in an embossed brown cloth hardcover. Overall, the work provides a fascinating first-hand account of the exploration of the interior of Africa by one of the most renowned European explorers.

Condition

- moderate cover wear and light paper yellowing, but overall quite good considering age. Hinges and bindings are solid.
