Eugène Carrière Original Drypoint Etching "Mère et Enfant"

Item Details

An original turn-of-the-century first state drypoint etching on laid paper designed by very well-listed French artist Eugène Carrière (1849 – 1906), titled Mère et Enfant. This print was etched by very well-listed French printmaker Émile Lequeux (born 1871) and was published by Ch. Wittman for publication in the French art publication Revue de l’art ancien et moderne. The print depicts a mother with her arms wrapped around a young child; the scene is printed in hazy fields of ink with heavy contrast. The print’s title, artists’ names, and publishing information are printed to the lower margin, and a ‘CH WITTMAN’ watermark can be seen in the paper to the lower edge. The piece is matted in beige with a gold tone filet and is presented behind glass in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire. A certificate of authenticity from Global Fine Art is attached to the verso.
