A pair of Civil War era Salem, Massachusetts recruitment broadsides. The collection includes a print on linen cloth by Hutchinson’s Printing Establishment (Opposite Essex House, Salem), c. 1862. Parker, Now Before Richmond – Town Hall. or No. 5 Central Street’ This broadside features a pay table of tallied inducements that culminate with ‘an average for one years service, of about TEN DOLLARS per week.’ Also included is a print on paper recruiting for the Salem Flying Artillery. The headlines read, ‘Salem Flying Artillery – Battery of Artillery From Essex County – Go Into Camp on Wednesday September 18th – Young Able Bodied Men of Essex, The Call is made on You! – County Company! – Town Hall, Salem.’ The two broadside prints were advertised in Essex County, Massachusetts and urge able men to report to Salem Town Hall.
