Antique Marquetry Portico Clock by Laine à Paris
Item Details
An antique marquetry portico clock by Laine à Paris, circa late 19th century. The rosewood-veneered case is inlaid with lightwood stringing, fruit and floral branches, and lobate urns. It features a rectangular pediment with a strip of cream-painted molding above four columnar uprights with gilt-metal, engine-turned terminals. The colonettes are centered by a round, brushed-steel dial with a Roman-numeral chapter ring and a gilt-metal surround. The pendulum is relief-decorated with swans, flowers, and a six-point star. The clock rises on a molded, plinth base ending in bun feet. The front and back of the dial are marked ‘Laine à Paris’ while the back is also stamped ‘8-1’ and ‘250’.
Condition
- some tiny veneer chips/losses and lifting/cracks; some craquelure and tiny paint losses to cream-painted moldings; some minor worming; not tested.
