Antique Empire Mahogany Chest With Seven Drawers
Item Details
An antique Empire mahogany chest with seven drawers, circa second quarter of the 19th century. The veneered case has pine secondaries. It features a two-drawer, deck-top with a shaped backsplash applied with brass fittings. Directly below are two aligned, projecting drawers over three dovetailed, long drawers. The cockbeaded drawer fronts are fitted with brass escutcheons and floral-embossed knobs and the long drawers are flanked by ring-turned colonettes. The drawer fronts are further embellished with bookmatched, crotch-mahogany veneers and the chest rises on ring-turned legs ending in tapered, cylindrical feet.

Condition
- to fair; some minor surface wear; some shrinkage cracks to proper right side panel and top of upper unit; some small veneer chips/losses; veneer cracks/repairs along front of apron; one drawer knob doesn’t match; some slight variations to round backplates, thus possible replacements; missing one escutcheon cover; backsplash probably married; case re-finished at some point.
