Antique Banister-Back Side Chair and Child's Ladderback Highchair

An antique banister-back side chair and a child’s ladderback highchair, circa 18th to 19th century. The banister-back example has a red-black, grain-painted surface. It features an incurvate crest above four vertical slats flanked by vase- and ring-turned posts with cylindrical finials. The rush seat is supported by sausage-turned, front legs joined by a spindled, box stretcher. The mixed wood, ladderback highchair has two horizontal slats flanked by turned posts with knob finials over open, spindled arms and a woven, splint seat. It rises on turned legs joined by a spindled, double-box stretcher.

Condition
- to fair; both with expected surface wear and imperfections, including scratches; banister-back chair with some small chips to turnings and feet; some wear/losses to paint; paint is older but probably not original; rush seat not original; highchair with a couple scuffs near feet and probable height loss; a couple of shrinkage cracks to stretchers; a couple of tiny putty repairs to posts; minor worming; splint seat probably not original.
