Hand-Knotted Kaleen Indo-Persian Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Indo-Persian area rug by Kaleen. This Indian-made wool rug features a Sultanabad-style design in a palette of brick red, shades of taupe, gold, salmon, and teal. It begins with a red field featuring a large-scale herati design incorporating densely patterned palmettes, leaves, flowers, and vines. Framing the field are three borders, including an elaborate herati main border over teal. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. Labeling on the reverse reads, in part, ‘Kaleen for child welfare,’ in reference to the company’s commitment to work against child labor in the rug-making industry.
