Circa 1900 Painted Chair Seat
Item Details
Interesting piece of American Folk Art. Portrait of a handsome, bearded, middle-aged fellow to the seat of a broken chair. One can only imaging the story behind this! Possibly, the documentation of a legendary barroom brawl resulting in the death of this chair and the subject as the victor!
The note to the back reads ’ Artist, Jack Kelly. Presented to Geo Auteureith very early 1900. Subject off the street. Prof. N.Y. City College. ’
None of this could be authenticated and the only George Auteureith found that fit the time period was a politician in MO.
Condition
Paint is very true and bright and chair seat has a beautiful aged patina.
