Item Details

An early 19th century grain-painted fancy side chair with a rush seat. The wooden, tiger maple-grained frame features a tablet crest decorated with a leafy melon motif above two horizontal splats with yellow and green outlines. The thumb-back stiles continue to a shaped, rush seat with yellow outlines along the seat rail. The chair rises on ring-turned and tapered, front legs joined by stretchers and ending in button feet.

Condition

- scattered scratches, nicks, and paint losses; some cracks to seat rail with a small loss near front left corner; couple of small losses to rushing; some of the paint possibly later; underside of seat rail adhered with a piece of tape marked “B5107-108”.
