Luigi Kasimir Signed Original Aquatint Etching "Grinzing"

Item Details

An original 1940 aquatint etching with a la poupée coloring by listed artist Luigi Kasimir (Austrian, 1881-1962), titled Grinzing. As the title suggests, the print depicts a street scene of the Grinzing area of Vienna, Austria. The street is covered in snow, and figures in heavy coats walk between low-lying buildings a towering church steeple. The piece is created with loose, gestural black linework overlaid with gritty fields of neutral colors. The print is signed in pencil to the lower margin, and is titled and dated in-plate to the lower right. It is matted in white and presented behind non-glare glass in a wooden frame with brushed gold tone and white finishes and a hanging wire. Kasimir attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied under Wilhelm Unger, who introduced him to the technique of the colored etching. He demonstrated a predisposition for monuments, street scenes, and tourist landmarks.
