Wood Engravings of Locomotive Engines Including Plates from Blackie & Son's "Railway Machinery"

A collection of wood engravings on paper of 19th century locomotive schematic drawings. This lot includes twenty prints from the book Railway Machinery by Daniel Kinnear Clark (1822-1896) and published by Blackie & Son in Glasgow in 1855. Plates were engraved by Joseph Wilson Lowry (1803-1879) and WA Beaver. These line-drawn prints depict the outer and inner workings of locomotive travel. Also included are six prints published by G. Weissenborn’s Engineering Office, and one print of an unmarked publisher. They are presented loose.

Condition

- wear to all edges from age and water; some toning and stains; many prints are creased or cut and mended along center line; two prints are in two pieces.
