Handwoven Eastern Anatolian Tribal Area Rug

Item Details

A handwoven eastern Anatolian tribal area rug. This short-pile wool rug is rendered in an abrashed palette of burgundy, orange, ivory, emerald, and dark sapphire. It features a grid design comprised of vertically fused memling medallions in sapphire, ivory, and orange with diamond centers in emerald or gray. The grid rests on a burgundy-colored field, which is framed by three borders, including a primary border featuring geometric florets in orange, emerald, and gray over ivory. Scattered among the memlings at one end of the field are small flowering plant and pinwheel motifs. Selvedges are single overcast. The rug finishes at each end with unbound camel hair and wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
