A late 19th century Patriarchs Militant ‘Odd Fellows’ fraternity sword. This fraternity sword manfactured by The Pettibone Brothers of Cincinnati features a silver tone blade and scarab which both include lettering which reads ‘Pax aut Bellum’, which translate to ‘Peace and War’. The sword includes a gold tone globe shaped pommel with a button cap and a scrolled crossguard. The hilt is wrapped in leather with gold tone beaded detailing. This style fraternity sword were issued to members of the Patriarchs Militant Uniformed Independent Order of Odd Fellows which was a group closely related to the Freemasons.

Condition

- tarnish and scratching throughout; some discoloration.
