Late 19th-Century Ink Drawing on Paper of Townscape

A late 19th-century ink drawing on paper of a townscape, created in 1895. The work depicts a street scene that takes place in Salzburg, Austria. Multiple figures, horse carriages and architecture are surrounded by the Untersberg mountains, visible to the background. Date and illegible graphite inscriptions including the location are written to the verso of the paper and to the lower right of the matting interior. The piece is signed by the artist with the monogram ‘FWC’ and dated to the lower right corner. Presented within off-white matting and unframed.

Condition

- drawing was rendered on two fragments of paper glued together; glue is visible to the center of the composition; a tear is present to the upper center; toning, orange stains and minor rubbing throughout the paper; paper presents irregular edges; water stains, rubbing, wear to edges and toning along matting.
